This was me since I was 10 years old. Obsessed with my weight and my body shape, always comparing myself to others. This only got worse as I got older and had more control over my own food and exercise. I would restrict, binge, then punish myself and feel deep shame. My happiness seemed dependent on the numbers on the scale. I was miserable. I was desperate to learn how to be ok with my body the way it is, to finally break out of the dieting cycle, and I was so scared of passing my body image issues onto my children. I started taking in all the knowledge that I could; on body image, self-love, self-compassion and mindset. I bought books, I did courses, I listened to podcasts, I subscribed to apps. I started spending money on loving myself rather than changing myself, and it is the best thing I have ever done. I have never felt better. I am thriving instead of just surviving, and now I want to help as many people as I can to do the same.
I’m a mum of 2, a teacher, and a body positive facilitator. I have a Bachelor of Science majoring in Biology, and a Master of Teaching, as well as many years of experience teaching adolescents. I have struggled with body image, self-esteem and food all my life, and when I learned how to break out of the diet/binge cycle and to actually appreciate myself and my body the way I am, I knew I needed to help as many people as I could to do the same.
